A new brand of lipstick

doug:

I’m running Q4’2009 online revenue reports this week. In November a new front face of our website launched after many months of work. Designs and ideas I had for it in November 2008 that seemed severe (removing nearly 2/3 of the content in the Membership area for example) were finally seeing the light of day a year later and no one really knew how it would go apart from feeling that “At least it doesn’t look like a cluttered 1998 website anymore. Now it’s an open 2003 website.”

The redesign seems to have improved the November->December Online Membership renewal by 13% compared to the same period last year. It doesn’t sound like much until I remind you that with nearly 900,000 members it means nearly an extra quarter million dollars in the company banks than had we stuck to the old designs. We’d have still made a lot of money from online renewal had online renewal growth remained at Q3 levels, so I’m counting this growth as a sign of work well done.

This is just Membership renewal revenue, too. I haven’t gotten in to check other departments yet (it’s a heck of a busy week- I’m on vacation in a couple days).
